Flex, Firefox plug-in + community.
Following on from my recent post on creating a specific flex search using Google I wanted to make it easier to flick between the main Google search and the flex collection Google search.
Well I’ve created an OpenSearch plugin (supported by Firefox 2+, Internet Explorer 7+, etc) so I can now easily flick to a specifc flex search whenever I wish now.
To use search plugin click here.
Community
I’d like it to contain as many helpful flex, AIR and flash sites as possible. I’m talking about sites that actually give you code hints, tips and samples without tonnes of text that get them up the page rankings without actually being of any real use.
Hopefully you’ll all like the search and find it useful. I’d love it if this flex/AS/AIR search could be as comprehensive as possible. It would help me (and others) when looking for appropriate information. (I know there are various aggregators out there but the search facilities on these sites aren’t normally great, but Google’s is — so go on, help me add to the list to make it better for everyone 🙂 )

Could you add my site for Adobe AIR applications RefreshingApps.com.
I’ve checked out your site and it’s not got any unique content. It looks good, but it appears to be just another aggregator site. So unless you start to add your own content then there is no point searching a site only to be pointed at another site.

Hi Kenneth,
Thanks for creating and sharing the OpenSearch plugin. It works well and will be pretty handy. How easy was it to create? Could you share the code?
Many thanks,
Adrian
check the previous post http://kennethsutherland.com/2009/05/04/flex-collection-google-search/ for code details. Google did all the code for you. You have to get a adsense account, and its an option under that to create a custom search.
I might try to make a post for an A-Z to doing the plugin. There is info out there but its not all in the one place.
Glad you liked it.
Do we have any addons or any tool that measures the page load time for Flex applications?
@Sri, not that I’m aware of, but you could just take note of the time when the flex swf is called/loaded (using javascript) then on applicationComplete send an event back to the javascript from flex to say that the app is loaded. Then work out the time that way.
Great post! Just wanted to let you know you have a new subscriber- me!
Could you add URLs to the online Flex Language Reference Manuals?
